I find when playing DnD4e it helps to write each of my abilities on a index card, as they are easy to sort and I can discard them when they're used.
The biggest issue with this method is quickly identifying which card is which, so I draw artwork on the back of each card to help clearly identify it.
Because initiative and turn order changes pretty much every turn, it's also easiest to track this with a deck of cards, so now I also have cards for each character to keep track of the turn order.
