World Shape

The world itself (or, at least, the mortal plane) is shaped like a large hemispherical bowl. Water continually flows out from the bowl and cascades evenly from the edges in a giant waterfall. There is a continuous current outwards, although on the surface this is small. It is theorised that the water itself comes from a gigantic portal to the elemental plane of water within the bowl, somewhere near the centre of the base... but nobody has ever managed to get close enough to look, as the pressure outwards is very great. The world is refered to as "The Basin"

Seas cover most of the surface of the basin. There are three continents:

The central continent is called Halberd, and is a large landmass roughly in the shape of a double-headed axeblade. This is viewed by most right-thinking people as the centre of the civilised world. There is a continent in the West called Akantosh, approximately in the shape of a crescent. Akantosh is home to several tribes of barbarian orcs. There is some trade between Halberd and Akantosh, although any significant presence is stomped on. There is a large chain of islands in the east loosely grouped together, referred to as the Chaos Isles. The Chaos isles are mostly home to powerful monsters, and considered inhospitable.

Compasses point towards Zenith Point, a mountain in the centre of Halberd. (Zenith Point is actually a large hydrocano.) The Direction towards the mountain is referred to as Zenith, and is marked on maps with a Z. North is approximately defined as the line from Terok to Eastwatch (up on the map I have drawn)

Suspended above the centre of the Basin is the sun, this point is north from the Efellian coast. The sun does not move through the sky, but runs through phases, beginning the day as the dawn crescent, and opening up to the shape of an eye, approximately 80% of a full circle, before turning back into a crescent facing the other way. Convention is to regard the dawn crescent as an upper crescent, and the dusk crescent as a lower crescent - with regional names, such as the Dawn Arch and the Night Smile. During the night, two moons are visible orbiting the sun. usually near full phase, but it depends on your positioning. Astronomy is not a strong science, but it is believed that the moons are about 1/3 higher up than the Sun. Above all of this is the curtain of the heavens, which holds the rest of the stars up. Nobody has ever managed to fly as high as the sun.
